Waiver Wire Pick Ups

The NBA All-Star festivities are here, and that means it's time for fantasy owners to take a good look at their roster and survey any cuts and bruises in their roto game. If you are in close contention for a playoff spot in a head-to-head league, strong performance in waiver wire will be crucial. Rotisserie owners, meanwhile, should make up their minds about categories to pursue or abandon and look to pull a blockbuster trade.

Speaking of trades, what would have sent All-Star New Jersey Nets guard Jason Kidd to the suddenly frantic Dallas Mavericks in exchange for a package with Devin Harris and Jerry Stackhouse met a roadblock in the form of Devean George's contract rights. Even if George can be coaxed and the trade does fall through, the fantasy impact of players involved should not change drastically. Kidd will rack up just as many assists playing alongside Dirk Nowitzki and Josh Howard. The Mavericks may be counting on Kidd to help out on the scoring end, but he is beyond the days of creating his own shot. Devin Harris's quickness meshes well with the athleticism of Vince Carter and Richard Jefferson. If big men Sean Williams and Josh Boone can develop their post-up game, Harris may become more of a playmaker than a scorer. Stackhouse will resume his sixth man duty and put up similar numbers.

     Waiver Wire Pick Ups

Dorell Wright: For anyone who hasn't bought into Wright yet, now is the time. No longer hamstrung by the ponderous, injury-plagued Shaquille O'Neal, the Heat will try to run with Wade and Marion. Wright is a talented and versatile forward who will fit perfectly into their scheme. His perimeter game has improved, but a fast-tempo offense is what his explosiveness needs. In the last six games, he is averaging 14.5 points and 7.8 rebounds. He also has at least one steal and one block in four of those games.

Hakim Warrick: With the departure of Pau Gasol, the Grizzlies are turning over the key of the offense to Rudy Gay and Mike Miller. Considering the abundance of shooters in their roster, it seems logical that they will emulate the Suns transition attack. Warrick is a big body who is better suited to the running game than Darko Milicic. He has 47 points and 21 rebounds in the last two games, logging over 30 minutes in each contest.

Randy Foye: In the case that managers in your league have prematurely given up on Foye, make sure to add him to your team. The Timberwolves are not rushing to work him back from off-season surgery because he is their second most talented player, but Foye will not sit on 8.5 points all season. He will soon see starter minutes and easily put up 15 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 assists.

Mikki Moore: There has been a lot of speculation about how the return of Mike Bibby and Ron Artest would affect the Kings line-up, but Moore's minutes haven't seen much decline. As long as he stays out of foul trouble, he will be a decent source of points and rebounds.
